Princeville at Hanalei
Resort/Residential: Princeville at Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii
Originally the playground of Hawaiian royalty, this very special place was named Princeville in 1860 for Hawaii's crown Prince Albert.
A famed resort on the Island of Kauai's dramatic North Shore that was once home to sugar plantations and cattle ranches, this 9,000-acre resort began to unfold as Hawaii's first and largest master planned community in the late 1960s.
In 2005, TRG partnered with Morgan Stanley to purchase the resort. Now, Princeville at Hanalei is home to a luxury hotel, casually elegant vacation residences, two award-winning golf courses, Princeville Shopping Center, the private Princeville Airport, historic taro lands and much more. Lush landscapes flow from the beaches at Hanalei Bay to the twin peaks of Hihimanu.
Under the guidance of TRG as master developer, the resort's former Princeville Hotel has been re-branded as Hawaii's first St. Regis, which recently re-opened as a new five-star property following an extensive $85 million renovation, and the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas comprise Hawaii's first Starwood Vacation Ownership opportunity, with 346 studio, one- and two-bedroom villas. The celebrated Makai (Ocean) Course, the 27-hole Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed championship golf course, now managed by Troon Golf, is fresh from a $12 million enhancement. And 122 acres on Hanalei Bay, the former site of the historic Hanalei Plantation, is positioned for a future ultra-luxury Montage Resort and residences.
Future plans for what is considered one of the finest destination resorts in the world include resort residences and visitor accommodations, shopping complexes and careful but continued growth as the resort enters a refreshing new era, expanding under existing entitlements. By creating additional residential, hospitality, commercial and golf facilities, a developer can capitalize on the demand for highly sought-after ocean front, ocean view and country-style real estate to maximize sales velocity and revenues.
